Anniversary of the War Resisters International

The War Resisters International (WRI) was founded on this day (March 16th) in 1921, with a founding declaration that has remained unchanged. “War is a crime against humanity.  I am therefore determined not to support any kind of war and to strive for the removal of all kinds of war.” WRI are a global pacifist and antimilitarist network with over 80 affiliated groups in 40 countries.  If you want to find out more about the WRI and the work they are doing today you can take a look at their website: We have a selection of objects in our collection relating to the WRI, including a wood carving of the symbol of the WRI; two uplifted forearms breaking a rifle in half.  The symbol was adopted by the WRI in 1931.   By Sarah Bartey
