Arts Council Funding Boost
Funding Boost of £47k from Museum Resilience Fund!
We are delighted to have received a funding boost from the Arts Council. The Museum has been granted £47,000 from the Museum Resilience Fund to help it expand and increase its work in Bradford and surrounding region.
The money will be spent in two ways, enabling the Peace Museum to step up to a new level of operation.
1.To become more diverse.
The Museum will build on its existing successful education programme for peace-building in communities. The Peace Museum will be able to reach out to the full diversity of communities in the region, producing exhibitions of peace stories from people of different cultural, ethnic and faith backgrounds. The Museum will be able to engage with different communities and be “owned” by all the people of the city and beyond.
2.To seek to expand into new premises.
At present, the Peace Museum is a victim of its own success, to the extent that it has grown out of its premises in city centre Bradford; it is bursting at the seams and only a fraction of its unique collection can be displayed. It is urgently seeking bigger and better premises. The grant will help with that search. New premises would allow the Museum to grow its collection, to have bigger and better exhibitions and education programmes, and to attract more people not only from Bradford but from around the world.
Clive Barrett, Chair of trustees of the Peace Museum, said,
“This grant is very exciting for the Peace Museum. We are encouraged that the Arts Council has backed us to move up to a new level of operating. We look forward to working with neighbours from all the communities of Bradford and West Yorkshire – whatever your background, the Peace Museum is for you. And we will be trying very hard to find new premises for the Museum – we are a Yorkshire success story in the centre of Bradford, and we urgently need a better home to build on that success.”
With thanks to the Art Council England for supporting us in this project.
We continue to seek funding to expand our core operation, including staffing and opening hours and are grateful of continued support.
