Black History Month – Black Peacemakers

The Museum has a new collection of pen and ink drawings donated by the artist William Dawson. They are currently on display in our temporary exhibition area and feature Black artists and activists. Come and have a look and try our new ‘Why Me?’ quiz, available  on our hand held devices  (from the 1st October). Explore why these individuals are featured in the drawings and how they have made a contribution to peace, peacemaking, social reform and the arts. It’s great to be part of Black History Month in Bradford. We are delighted to be working with BMDC, LunaMatik, BCB and other community groups. Come and say ‘Hello’ at the Black History event at the Gumption Centre on 20th October 2012; have a look at some of our resources and a selection of our Playing for Peace exhibition boards featuring Jesse Owens, Muhammad Ali, Cathy Freeman and many more inspirational Black sports men and women. Find out more about sport and apartheid, Tommie Smith and John Carlos’  ‘Black Power Salute’ and Black footballers from the recent and distant past.
