Coming soon at The Peace Museum
We had an exciting year in 2019 at The Peace Museum. Here is a taste of what we have planned for 2020:
Faith and Peace
We have been working with groups of women to explore themes of faith and peace through the lens of gender. Funded by the Anglican Pacifist Fellowship and led by Peace Education Worker, Liz Firth, local women were encouraged to explore different responses to the themes of Faith and Peace. The exhibition will tell stories of different perspectives of faith and peace creatively, through textiles, printing and painting.
Faith and Peace will be opening at The Peace Museum in April 2020.
Bombs… Away is a brand new exhibition that will explore the impact of civilian bombings during World War II and the peace campaigns created in response. Using our unique collection to tell stories of instances of civilian bombings which motivated the international peace movement, the exhibition will coincide with the 75th Anniversary of The Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Bombs… Away will open at The Peace Museum in May 2020.
Protest! In Our Time
Our galleries explore the stories of peace campaigners of the past, those who have protested against nuclear weapons, against war, against militarism. But peaceful protest continues today, and this exhibition tells the stories of those who are campaigning for peace NOW. Part of a wider project ‘Protesting Now: Collecting for the Future’ and the second instalment of the exhibition, the project aims to expand our collection with objects from modern campaigners. The exhibition will include items from recent protests including Stop DSEI, Extinction Rebellion, Climate Strike, Don’t Attack Iran and more key moments in contemporary peaceful activism.
Protest! In Our Time opens at The Peace Museum and our pop-up gallery A Piece of Peace in June 2020.
Last year saw the launch of our exhibition Peace OUT, exploring stories of LGBTQ+ peacemakers and key touchpoints in LGBTQ+ movement. We’re bringing the exhibition back, with more contemporary objects and a commissioned piece of artwork. Partnering with Bradford Pride, the exhibition will be launching as part of Bradford Pride weekend.
Peace OUT+ opens at Bradford Pride on 6th June 2020 with a corresponding exhibition programme coming soon.
