Southwark Nuclear Free Zone Poster

Object Type: Poster Date: 1980s Description: An Easter peace poster from Southwark: A Nuclear Free Zone, which shows an image of hot cross buns on a tray. Instead of a cross on each bun though, is the CND symbol.  A Nuclear Free Zone is a place where nuclear weapons and nuclear power are banned.  The Nuclear Free Zone Movement in this country was strong in early 1980s when up to 200 local authorities declared themselves to be ‘nuclear-free’.  The first Nuclear Free Zone was declared by Manchester City Council in 1980. The poster was a gift to the museum from the London Co-op Political Committee in 1994. Size: 76 x 51 cms
