We’re looking for Trustees

The Peace Museum is the only museum in the UK which is dedicated to the history and often untold stories of peace, peacemakers and the peace movement. Key elements of our work include educational outreach and promoting community cohesion. We use the collection of 7,000 artefacts, banners, posters and videos to inspire people to see peacemaking as an active endeavour.

Based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, but national in scope, the Museum draws trustees from both the local region and across the country. We’re looking for three new trustees to join our Board.

Trustees currently inadequately reflect the rich diversity of communities across West Yorkshire. We particularly welcome applications from people from a BAME background or those who are currently underrepresented in the arts.

Trustees Required

Three trustees with oversight of: 1) financial management; 2) HR; 3) open, according to the specific talents and experience of the trustee.

A Finance Trustee with skills and experience in business to work alongside our book-keeper; oversee all the financial processes of the Museum and contribute to the production of budgets and the Annual Report.

An HR Trustee with skills and up-to-date experience and knowledge of HR. You would ensure that staff and volunteer contracts and working practices are in good order; operational policies are up to date and in use and the Board acts responsibly re. DBS, Health and Safety, GDPR, etc.

Any other experience We invite you to apply even though you may not fulfil the particular skills and experience above, if you feel that you might make an active contribution to the life and growth of the Museum.

Number of meetings / time commitment

Current practice is to hold two meetings of the full Board in daytime Saturdays and two as evening teleconferences, per annum, but this could be amended to fit the availability of trustees. Trustees would also be expected actively to participate in frequent subgroups relating to their own specialism.
Neither daytime nor evening meetings are ruled out, but most meetings would be timed to suit participants. Meetings involving museum employees would usually be in the daytime.
